Here at Showtime Smiles®, we offer the best in braces so that you can rapidly achieve a straight and beautiful smile. We are committed to educating our patients about their options and effective ways to take care of their teeth while wearing braces.
Dr. Dan provides a few options to his patients, so that they can decide which route to braces is their preferred method. He offers traditional braces, which consist of metal brackets and an archwire that shifts the teeth. He also offers Wildsmiles Braces, which work just like traditional braces, but the brackets come in fun shapes like diamonds and footballs. Another option is Invisalign clear braces, which are removable see-through plastic aligners. These work more like retainers in the way that they slide over and off of the teeth.
Caring for your Braces
It is especially important to care for your teeth while you are wearing orthodontics. If you choose metal braces, there are lots of places for food to become trapped, so you should brush your teeth after every meal and snack. You should also floss at least once a day. There are special tools in stores to help you floss with metal braces, like tenser, thicker floss or water flossers. If you opt for Invisalign, you should still brush and floss frequently. When you remove your aligners to brush your teeth, you can brush your aligners as well. You can also soak them in a denture cleaner.
Other Braces FAQ
Q: What can I eat?
A: If you are wearing metal braces, it is best to avoid hard or sticky foods that may damage the braces, like caramels, gum, ice, apples, etc.
Q: Will I be sore?
A: You will probably be a little sore a few days after you get braces or your dentist adjusts your braces. This soreness will fade, but in the meantime, you can wash out your mouth with warm salt water or take aspirin if you feel uncomfortable.
Q: What if a wire or bracket is bothering me?
A: You can place wax over a wire or bracket that is rubbing uncomfortably against your mouth. Wax can make all the difference and prevent you from getting sores. If you do not see improvement, you can visit Dr. Dan so that he can make the necessary changes.
Q: How do I reach someone at the office after hours?
A: You can TEXT us at (972) 547-4443 anytime 24 hours per day! Dr. Dan will personally respond to any questions regarding orthodontic emergencies!
